Chicago, IL - MicroLink Devices, Inc. (www.mldevices.com), a Niles, IL-based manufacturer of solar cells and sheets, and of wireless communications materials, has been awarded an extension to its research contract with UES, a Dayton, OH-based science and technology company.  Under the extended contract, MicroLink will improve the performance of its existing high-efficiency, lightweight, flexible solar sheets.  MicroLink will also install its solar sheets on Wasp and Puma unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in order to enhance their performance.  Under the existing contract MicroLink successfully developed and installed solar sheets on the Raven RQ11-B UAV.  This research project is funded by the United States Air Force.

Dr. Noren Pan, MicroLink’s President and CEO, said, “MicroLink is very happy to receive this contract extension.  In the original contract, our solar sheets resulted in a substantial increase in the endurance of the Raven.  We expect similar results on the Wasp and Puma.  MicroLink’s solar cells offer a unique combination of high performance, low weight, and flexibility at a reasonable price.  They are very suitable for an application like this.”

Pan also noted, "I am very proud of our technical team who have worked very hard to make the original contract a great success.  I look forward to full commercialization of MicroLink’s lightweight solar sheet technology"

Chicago, IL - MicroLink Devices, Inc. (www.mldevices.com), a Niles, IL-based manufacturer of solar cells and sheets, and of wireless communications materials, has been awarded a contract from United States Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) to develop a lightweight, robust, efficient solar sheet for portable power generation.  This sheet will contain MicroLink’s latest generation of high-efficiency epitaxial lift-off (ELO) solar cell.  The sheet is intended to be attached to the backpack carried by an individual warfighter, and will charge equipment batteries while on the move.  A key objective of this work is to package the cells so that they have a long endurance in field conditions.

According to Dr. Noren Pan, MicroLink’s President and CEO, "MicroLink is delighted to receive this contract.  MicroLink’s solar cells offer a unique combination of high performance, low weight, and flexibility at a reasonable price.  They are ideally suited to an application like the backpack solar sheet."  Pan added, "MicroLink is proud to be able to support the military by making equipment that will help our warfighters."

Chicago, IL - MicroLink Devices, Inc. (www.mldevices.com), a Niles, IL-based manufacturer of solar cells and sheets, and of wireless communications materials, is proud to announce the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 7,994,419 “Methods for Fabricating Thin Film III-V Compound Solar Cell.”  This patent protects MicroLink’s epitaxial lift-off (ELO) technology, which allows the fabrication of large-area inverted metamorphic multi-junction (IMM) solar cells while preserving the GaAs or InP semiconductor substrate on which the solar cells are grown.  MicroLink has developed ELO technology over the past several years and is developing a range of solar cells based on this technology.

Dr. Noren Pan, MicroLink’s President and CEO, said, "We are very pleased to receive this patent.  Epitaxial lift-off is a revolutionary technology that offers the prospect of improved solar cell performance and reduced cost."
